A Psychologist Revealed a 3-Minute-Rule That All Parents Should Follow
How much time do you spend with your child after work? Technically, we only need about 30 minutes to cook dinner for them, about 15 minutes to read a book, and just a minute to kiss them good night. However, according to experts, among all these periods there are 3 minutes, which may be the most important days. Psychologist Natalia Sirotic explained the 3-minute rule and she said that if you follow this rule, you will trust your child even when they are teenagers.
adnanosnad decided to find out how to use these 3 minutes correctly to reach a full understanding with your child, and it was quite easy!
Rule 3 minutes
It is also very important to be on par with your child’s eyes and spend 3 minutes hugging your child and asking what happened while you were away. It is especially important to follow this rule when you pick up your child from kindergarten, school, or when you come home from work.
Why do you need to do this?
According to the psychologist, in the first minutes after you see your child, they give you all the information they can remember.
The consequences of ignoring the 3-minute rule may vary depending on the nature of your child. Someone who doesn’t have the opportunity to tell all parents when they can’t talk about very important things, and over time some facts won’t seem important enough to even talk about them. In this case, parents may miss out on many really important things.
Other children will continue to talk all evening, each time they think about new facts, and in the end, they will have a full story. Parents of such a child risk not hearing many things, because, for them, the talking child will eventually become just background noise.
It is important to note that the 3-minute rule does not mean that you should only spend 3 minutes a day with your child. It just means that you have to spend 3 minutes with your child immediately after you have met them to make sure that you hear everything important to your child to tell you.
Also, to reach a full understanding with your child, you can follow these psychologist recommendations:
Every day, spend some time doing things that you and your child are interested in together.
Let your children understand that you can hear them. For example, you can repeat the information you have heard from your child to make sure that you have understood everything correctly.
Don’t show fake excitement.
Go back to your conversations later, let them know that you remember what they’re talking to you about.
Avoid long and useless arguments, even if they are about something quite obvious to you. Just tell your child, “Okay, I understand that you don’t agree with me.”
